CALL TO ACTION- Potential FAA Regulations for our hobby!!!

For the past several years the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) has been working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure that regulations being considered for commercial Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) do not restrict model aircraft being flown for recreational, sport, competition or academic purposes. Recreational air hobby products include balsa and foam aircraft, park flyers, helicopters and other aircraft that are flown at club fields, flying events, parks, or on private property.

In the summer of 2011, the FAA will be publishing a “Notice of Proposed Rulemaking” that will include additional rules that could impact hobbyists by restricting operations. These proposed regulations could place unnecessary restrictions on a hobby that has an impeccable safety record. Horizon Hobby is encouraging our consumers to make themselves aware of the issues by using the resources on the AMA’s governmental affairs website.

On this website you can:

  • Learn about the regulations being considered by the FAA
  • Understand the difference between commercial and recreational sUAS
  • Learn what you can do to help minimize the regulation’s impact on RC aircraft use
  • Share information with fellow hobbyists
  • Link to your congressional representatives to express your views on this matter

Please visit the AMA site listed in the link above and contact your representatives in order to voice your concern for our hobby.
