Float-Fly Re-Cap …by Greg Sargent

Well, our Memorial Day 2011 Float-Fly was a success by all accounts! After weeks of constant rain and windy weather, the clouds dissipated just in time to allow for some great conditions for our bi-annual gathering at Glenwood Park.

Saturday’s turn-out was impressive, with the majority of club members, wives, family and friends gathered for the day’s festivities – I’m guessing at least 30 people were there at some point. Plenty of good food and drinks were brought in for everyone’s enjoyment and folks mingled, laughed and joked throughout the day.

The Floating and Flying was impressive too. Lots of float planes, foamies and RC watercraft were buzzing around the lake to make for some great spectating. Some folks even found an easy way to clean that pesky nitro fuel off their planes by simply nose-diving them into the lake! Of course our trusty ‘retriever’, Danny was right there every time to rescue the soggy craft from a watery grave. I think he deserves a special ‘thanks’ just for getting into that boat in the first place!

Sunday’s turnout was more subdued, with about 10 or 12 members there to primarily relax, enjoy Saturday’s leftovers, and generally cut-up and have a good time. Of course some more floatin’ and flyin’ ensued, but at a more leisurely pace for sure.

Peace Out – Word to your Mom n’ Em’! Sarge
